Youth Minister

Steven Douglas

From Steven Douglas, youth minister:

"I am originally from West Columbia SC. I lived there for 21 years until my wife Alice and I got married and moved to Prosperity, where we have been for the past 22 years. We have been members of Wightman for almost 17 years now. I have been involved with youth ministry in one way or another for more than 20 years. I am excited to be a part of not only a growing and thriving church but a thriving youth ministry here at Wightman. Growing up in an active youth group myself I understand what kind of impact it can have on a youth. That is why I believe that the youth of the church are not just our future but our present as well.

I would love for you to come be a part of our Youth ministry at Wightman."

Children's Minister

Michelle Murphy

"Our family moved to Prosperity almost 2 years ago and we joined the Wightman family shortly before that. I grew up in Ohio and have been very involved in church since I was a young child. I'm extremely blessed and thankful to be a part of the UMKIDS ministry and share the love and message of our Lord and Savior with each of them."

Contemporary Worship Leader

Matthew Donovan

Send Email

"Greetings to you and blessed to be a part of Wightman United Methodist Church! My name is Matthew (Matt) Donovan and I was raised in nearby Irmo, SC. My wife, Amyrose (Amy), is from the Federated States of Micronesia. We both love to worship our Creator in song and are so glad to help bring another dimension of worship and praise at Wightman.

I grew up mainly focused on making music. Piano, guitar, drums; which led me to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. After becoming a born-again believer in 1991, I was involved with 'The Vineyard', which is a nondenominational church in Columbia, SC. I joined together with small home groups and the church worship team as I learned how to facilitate and enter into worship. A highlight was working on the worship team with songwriter Linda Barnhill, who wrote the modern day classic, 'Glorify Your Name'. This song was eventually recorded by Crystal Lewis.

I later relocated to Charolette, NC with MorningStar Ministries. It was a great opportunity to direct multiple worship teams for their conferences. It was there I developed my writing gift and co-wrote 'Come Let Us Go Up To The Mountain' with Suzy Wills. This song would later be published by Integrity Music and recorded by Paul Wilbur.

Some time later, traveling also took me to Redding, California where I produced Bethel Music's first recording 'Undone' with Brian and Jenn Johnson. Fast forward to 2017 and he has surely 'worked all things together for good', Romans 8:28, by bringing us to Prosperity, SC.

I believe the worship ministry is a vital part of any congregation and I am always looking for vocalists and instrumentalists to partner with our times of worship at Wightman. If this is of interest to you, please email me at Donovanstudio@gmail.com.

"I grew up in Prosperity and attended Wightman while I lived here. Four years ago,  I moved back to Prosperity with my two boys so they could grow up here at Wightman. I enjoy keeping the children so that their parents can go to Worship and Sunday School. I am excited to be a part of Wightman!"
